Based on his original research, Woods' Master's thesis A Very Necessary Thing (California State University Long Beach 1998) describes the first comprehensive system for producing high quality digital halftone negatives for silver, platinum, cyanotype and Van Dyke printing.

Woods published On Three! an Introduction to Digital Photography for Cavers, an interactive CD-ROM on digital cave photography, in June 2004.
